If you’re reading this it probably means you have read one or two of my essays on Facebook and want to read more. It’s also possible that you don’t know me at all and need a bit of background on me. Well, here it is!

My name is JOHN LYLE. I am close to 76 years old and I spent most of my career in Barclays Bank D.C.O. and First National Bank, in Internal Audit Division. I served in various capacities in Audit starting as Inspector’s Clerk, Inspector’s Assistant, Internal Auditor’s Assistant, Internal Auditor and finally Senior internal Auditor. I retired in Port Elizabeth in 2000 but currently live in Bellville in the Cape.

These essays are not meant to be my own history or that of the Division in which I served. I simply wish to share the fun and laughter that I experienced while working with some unusual and wonderful people. I don’t profess to be an author – I’m simply a bit of a raconteur with some stories to tell and if you enjoy what I have written, my time will not have been wasted.

I have noticed that alcohol plays a part in many of my stories so let me hasten to say while I was a naughty boy at one time, I gave up drinking on Boxing Day 1983. But it was for health reasons not because I’ve turned against imbibing as such. After all, if it wasn’t for alcohol, many of these stories would not exist and that would be a crying shame.
